Another 2016 KIA model has been spied — this time, it’s the Sportage, and a possible reveal date has been pinned in September at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
Shots of the interior have made their rounds on the Internet, and major changes include the equipment and quality of the cabin. A three-spoked steering wheel has been confirmed in some of the shots as well as vertical air vents, and a center-console infotainment system is somewhat visible. The rest of the dashboard is under covers.
For the exterior, the 2016 Sportage appears to have an updated “tiger nose” grille, and the overall design appears to be influenced by a concept dubbed the KX3 from 2014. The lower grille has a larger opening.
The headlights have been repositioned and have a Porsche-like influence. Longer rear doors and a dual exhaust system have also been seen. The Sportage’s rear end gets LED taillights while keeping its bumper-mounted turn signals and backup lights.
Two choices are likely for the 2016 Sportage: 1.2-liter turbocharged and a 1.6-L with 204 horsepower. These engines also are slated to be mated with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
It also sounds as if the Sportage will be revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September. It might be a bit after that before the 2016 KIA Sportage goes on sale in the U.S., but when it does, think Jim Butler KIA in Chesterfield Valley!
