We had our eyes intently on the New York International Auto Show here at Jim Butler Kia of St Louis this spring, where the Kia EV9 SUV made its star-studded and Earth-friendly debut! We are thrilled to announce that the EV9 will be produced at the West Point, Georgia plant, providing a sense of pride and stability for Americans that are the backbone of industry and our durable auto construction. Stateside production is one of the requirements to qualify for the federal tax credit, which also mandates that the vehicle in question costs under $80,000.
The West Point facility already produces the Telluride SUV, Sorento SUV, and very sharp K5 sedan. The EV9 has drawn a very specific segment with seating up to seven and a focus on making the cabin very luxurious. The dual display cockpit up front is equipped to receive very convenient over-the-air updates that provide the latest software. Taking cues from the earlier and slightly more pleasurable days of aviation, each seat inside the EV9 meets executive class standards.
First and second-row passengers have the option of spreading out lavishly and being treated to “Relaxation Mode”. This offers high-powered USB-C outlets throughout the cabin, and power-operated leg rests to take a load off while the miles glide by. The EV9’s extended range model offers 300 miles of range via the 99.8kWh battery, which can charge from 10% to 80% in just 25 minutes with a public fast charger. This is the second model based on the E-GMP platform, and the West Point, GA facility will be reaping the benefits of a new over $200 million investment to make necessary preparations for assembly.
The editors on staff at the Electrek.com blog are always in the know about everything regarding clean-sourced powered cars, and they claim that the EV9 will “hit the sweet spot of the market with its three-row electric SUV.” The EV9 RWD Standard does 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds, and the EV9 will also come with Vehicle-to-Load functionality through its Integrated Charging Control Unit. This will enable up to 3.68 KW of power outbound to assist users with charging laptops, tailgate party components, or camping equipment.
One of the premier technology highlights for the EV9 is the Highway Driving Pilot system, which will enable conditional Level 3 autonomous driving in selected markets. 15 very high-tech sensors are consistently on alert to detect objects in a full 360-degree field of view, providing excellent assistance in accident prevention. The EV9 also introduces the Kia Connect Store, which enables customers to easily upgrade their digital features and various services immediately on demand. There is the very awesome ability to upgrade The Digital Pattern Lighting Grille by snagging up the “Lighting Pattern” feature, bringing an exciting nightclub and a very chill or alluring vibe to the drive.
The EV9 boasts an aerodynamic coefficient of .28, which was achieved through the implementation of a 3D sculpted under-body cover, aerodynamic wheels, and air curtains that are expertly situated into the front bumper. The GT-line trim features sporty styling adjustments to the wheels and roof rack, bumpers, along with the addition of a more dynamic choice of colors. In keeping with the laurels of Kia’s “Opposites United” design strategy, the interior of the EV9 uses important cues from nature, wise use of materials, and balance between humans and the environment.
